2026 State of the Pinelands Report

The Pinelands Alliance (the Alliance) released its 2026 State of the Pinelands Report. Amid the growing national uncertainty around environmental protections, Pinelands Alliance is urging Governor Mikie Sherrill to strengthen and expand the state’s layered environmental safeguards to protect clean air, water, public lands, and climate resilience. As the federal government prioritizes fossil fuels over environmental protection and public safety, New Jersey is clearly benefiting from strong state-based protections, including regional oversight by the New Jersey Pinelands Commission. Advocates are calling on the new gubernatorial administration to build on these protections by fully implementing the state’s REAL coastal resilience rules, and by strengthening enforcement of off-road vehicle laws using the successful management model at Wharton State Forest.
