Rivers and Streams

Rivers and streams are the main surface waters of the Pinelands. Pinelands waters are low in alkalinity, hardness, and pH, and high in organic materials. Most river basins and streams originate within the region as groundwater discharge from the Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer and flow into the Atlantic Ocean. They serve as recreation and transportation routes for humans and homes for many kinds of fish, such as the common banded sunfish.
