New Jersey Pinelands Commission
 

A state agency charged with protecting and preserving the resources of the New Jersey Pinelands. The Commission is comprised of 15 commissioners who serve without pay for 3-year terms-7 members appointed by the Governor, 7 members appointed by each of the 7 Pinelands counties, and 1 member appointed by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior. The Commission is responsible for implementing the CMP and has the powers to prepare, promulgate, adopt, amend, or repeal such rules and regulations that are necessary to implement the provisions of the Pinelands Protection Act. The Commission reviews local ordinances and individual developments in the Pinelands to ensure they comply with the CMP. The Commission's Executive Director heads a staff of approximately 50.
