Pinelands Agriculture
Pinelands residents have created farmlands in the Pinelands that, over time, have been carved out of meadows, swamps, and woodlands. Berries grow well in the Pinelands sandy, acid soils. North of the Mullica River, blueberries and cranberries are the dominant crops.

New Jersey ranks No. 2 in the U.S. for blueberry production and No. 3 for cranberries. Fruit and vegetable crops flourish in soils with more clay. South of the Mullica, apples, grapes, peaches, strawberries, sweet potatoes, and fruit trees thrive.
